Project TRAIN

Project TRAIN (Teacher Resources for Addiction Impact, Now) was initiated in response to educators’ growing need for training related to the opioid crisis’ impact on students. The aim of the project is to build teachers’ capacity to better support students who have a caregiver with a substance use disorders.

Based on a survey completed by nearly 3,000 teachers in West Virginia in 2018 and 2019:

60%
of teachers reported feeling little confidence in knowing how to support students with caregivers with a substance use disorder.

74%
of teachers reported an increase in students impacted by substance use in the home.
