Gwen Rosenbluth

Gwen earned a BA in English/history and Teacher Certification from the University of Texas at Austin (1962), an MEd in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Memphis (1968), and an EdD in Curriculum and Instruction from West Virginia University (1990). She taught English in Austin, TX, and Memphis, TN, where she was also an English/language arts supervisor at the Auburndale School. At Morgantown High School she taught 11th and 12th grade English and Advanced Placement Language and Composition and also established and directed the first computer writing lab (1989-1995) and MHS Teacher Education Center as its PDS coordinator and site supervisor (1991-1999). For several years she taught at WVU as an adjunct instructor in English education methods and writing courses.

Gwen served as a WVU Writing Project Co-Director 1990-2001 an In-Service Coordinator (2001-2006), as WV Center for Professional Development AP English Consultant and Instructor (1995-2006), as a College Board AP English Consultant (1995-2006) and Reader (2000-2006), as a WV Governor’s Honor Academy Teacher in 1991 and 1998. She also served on the WV AP Advisory Council (1999-2006) and as chair (2003-2006), and as WV English Language Arts Teachers president (1994-95).

Among her publications are her WVU dissertation The Effects of Writing Process-Based Instruction and Word Processing on Remedial and Accelerated 11th Graders and a co-authored and edited book with Hoffman, Reed, and Rosenbluth entitled Lessons from Restructuring Experiences: Stories of Change in Professional Development Schools .

Among her awards are WVU/HR&E Hall of Fame 2008, WV Teacher of the Year finalist 1989, Monongalia Teacher of the Month (April 1989, June 1998), WVU Phi Delta Kappa Service Award 1988, WVU Phi Delta Kappa Outstanding Chapter Dissertation Award 1990, WVU Doctoral Student Research Award 1990, WVU HR&E Laddie Reed Bell Distinguished Service Award 1991, EERA Distinguished Paper Award 1991, Ashland Golden Apple Achiever Award 1991, 1997, GHA Favorite Educator 1994-2001, WV English Language Arts Council Esteemed Colleague Award 1998. In addition, her students won numerous awards at state and national levels including National History Day, NCTE Writing Excellence Awards, and Scholastic Writing Competitions.
