How to Apply to Graduate

The deadline for applying online for May 2017 graduation is March 3, 2017. Students who miss this deadline can apply to graduate in August 2017.

Note: Any graduate that wishes to participate in the CEHS Commencement Ceremony is required to also register to participate in the event. More information can be found at:  http://cehs.wvu.edu/student-resources/graduation-info

ALL college students must apply to graduate ONLINE (NO paper applications will be accepted).


Information you will need to submit with your application:

Please have all of the applicable information below ready before you start the application process. If you are unsure of any of this information, please contact your graduate advisor. 
  • ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS will need to provide a permanent address after graduation so that your diploma/certificate can be mailed to you.         
  • Master's thesis students will need:
    • Thesis title
    • Names of thesis committee members
  • Dissertation students will need:
    • Semester of admission to candidacy
    • Date of passage of qualifying exams
    • Dissertation title
      • Please note: Editing your dissertation title in the ETD Database will NOT update it in the BANNER system. Please notify the Registrar's Office Graduation Unit with any updates to your title after submitting your application, as it is essential that the two databases match. 
    • Names of dissertation committee members

How to submit your application and materials: 

Once you have all the information listed above, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into your WVU Student Portal (MIX) account:  http://portal.wvu.edu  
  2. Click on the “DegreeWorks” tab 
  3. Next to the Graduation Application field, click the “Apply to Graduate” link.

May Graduates

Accessing the Online Graduation Application:

  1. Log into your WVU Student Portal (MIX) account:  http://portal.wvu.edu  
  2. Click on the “DegreeWorks” tab. 
  3. Next to the Graduation Application field, click the “Apply to Graduate” link.


THESIS AND DISSERTATION STUDENTS ONLY:

Three weeks PRIOR to defense date, and no later than the end of the third week in April, the following should be completed:


August Graduates

Accessing the Online Graduation Application:

  1. Log into your WVU Student Portal (MIX) account:  http://portal.wvu.edu  
  2. Click on the “DegreeWorks” tab. 
  3. Next to the Graduation Application field, click the “Apply to Graduate” link.


THESIS AND DISSERTATION STUDENTS ONLY:

Three weeks PRIOR to defense date, and no later than the end of the third week in July, the following should be completed:


December Graduates

Accessing the Online Graduation Application:

  1. Log into your WVU Student Portal (MIX) account:  http://portal.wvu.edu  
  2. Click on the “DegreeWorks” tab. 
  3. Next to the Graduation Application field, click the “Apply to Graduate” link .

THESIS AND DISSERTATION STUDENTS ONLY:

Three weeks PRIOR to defense date, and no later than Thanksgiving, the following should be completed:


Graduation FAQ’s

Q: I have an “incomplete” on my transcript, can I graduate?
A: Any “I” (incomplete), or “NR” (no report) must be taken care of prior to degree completion, even if the course is NOT required for your degree. The instructor must complete a Grade Modification Form and submit to our office.


Q: I have completed all of my coursework, must I enroll in the semester in which I graduate?
A: Yes. All students must be enrolled in at least one WVU credit hour course in the semester in which they are planning to graduate.
